Biography of Emmett Till, Victim of Lynching

Emmett Till (July 25, 1941–August 21, 1955) was 14 years old when two white Mississippians killed him for allegedly whistling at a white woman. His death was brutal, and his killers acquittal shocked the world. His lynching galvanized the civil rights movement as activists dedicated themselves to ending the conditions that had led to Tills death. Fast Facts: Emmet Till Known For: 14-year-old victim of lynching whose death galvanized the civil rights movementAlso Known As:  Emmett Louis TillBorn:  July 25, 1941 in Argo, IllinoisParents: Mamie Till-Mobley and Louis TillDied:  August 21, 1955 in Money, MississippiNotable Quote about Emmet Till: I thought about Emmett Till, and I could not go back. My legs and feet were not hurting, that is a stereotype. I paid the same fare as others, and I felt violated. I was not going back. –Rosa Parks Early Childhood Emmett Louis Till was born on July 25, 1941, in Argo, Illinois., a town outside of Chicago. Emmetts mother Mamie left his father, Louis Till, while he was still a baby. In 1945, Mamie Till received word that Emmetts father had been killed in Italy. She did not learn of the exact circumstances until after Emmetts death, when Mississippi Senator James O. Eastland, in an effort to reduce sympathy for Emmets mother, revealed to the press that he had been executed for rape. In her book, Death of Innocence: The Story of the Hate Crime That Changed America, Tills mother Mamie Till-Mobley, recounts her sons childhood. He spent his early years surrounded by a large family. When he was 6 years old, he contracted polio. Though he recovered, it left him with a stutter that he struggled to overcome throughout his youth. Childhood Mamie and Emmett spent some time in Detroit but moved to Chicago when Emmett was around 10. She had remarried at this point but left her husband when she learned of his infidelity. Mamie Till describes Emmett as adventurous and independent-minded even when he was a young child. An incident when Emmett was 11 also reveals his courage.  Mamies estranged husband came by their home and threatened her. Emmett stood up to him, grabbing a butcher knife to defend his mother if necessary. Adolescence By his mothers account, Emmett was a responsible young man as a preteen and teenager. He often took care of the house while his mother was at work. Mamie Till called her son meticulous. He was proud of his appearance and figured out a way to steam his clothes on the radiator. But he also had time for fun. He loved music and enjoyed dancing. He had a strong group of friends back in Argo whom he would take the streetcar to see on the weekends. And, like all kids, he dreamed of his future. Emmett told his mother once that he wanted to be a motorcycle policeman when he grew up. He told another relative he wanted to be a baseball player. Trip to Mississippi Tills mothers family was originally from Mississippi and she still had family there, specifically an uncle, Mose Wright. When Till was 14, he went on a trip during his summer vacation to see his relatives there. Till had spent his entire life in or around Chicago and Detroit, cities that were segregated, but not by law. Northern cities like Chicago were segregated because of the social and economic consequences of discrimination. As such, they did not have the same sort of rigid customs relating to race that were found in the South. Emmetts mother warned him that the South was a different environment. She cautioned him to be careful and to humble himself to the whites in Mississippi if necessary. Accompanied by his 16-year-old cousin Wheeler Parker Jr., Till arrived in Money, Mississippi, on August 21, 1955. The Events Preceding Emmet Tills Brutal Murder On Wednesday, August 24, Till and seven or eight cousins went by Bryant Grocery and Meat Market, a white-owned store that mainly sold goods to the African-American sharecroppers in the area. Carolyn Bryant, a 21-year-old white woman, was working at the cash register while her husband, a trucker, was on the road. Emmett and his cousins were in the parking lot chatting, and Emmett, in a youthful boast, bragged to his cousins that he had a white girlfriend back in Chicago. What happened next is unclear. His cousins do not agree whether someone dared Emmett to go into the store and get a date with Carolyn. Emmett did, however, go into the store and purchased bubble gum. To what extent he attempted to flirt with Carolyn is also unclear. Carolyn changed her story on several occasions, suggesting at various times that he said, Bye, baby, made lewd comments, or whistled at her as he left the store. His cousins reported that he, in fact, whistled at Carolyn, and they left when she went to her car, apparently to get a gun. His mother suggests that he may have whistled in an attempt to overcome his stutter; he sometimes would whistle when he became stuck on a word. Whatever the context, Carolyn chose to keep the encounter from her husband, Roy Bryant. He learned of the incident from local gossip—a young African-American teenager apparently being so bold with a white woman was unheard of. Tills Murder At around 2 a.m. on August 28, Roy Bryant and his half-brother John W. Milam went to Wrights house and pulled Till out of bed. They kidnapped him, and local farmhand Willie Reed saw him in a truck with around six men (four whites and two African-Americans) at around 6 a.m. Willie was on his way to the store, but as he walked away he heard Tills screams. Three days later, a boy fishing in the Tallahatchie River 15 miles upstream from Money found Emmetts body. Emmett had been tied to a fan from a cotton gin that weighed around 75 pounds. He had been tortured before being shot. Till was so unrecognizable that his great-uncle Mose was only able to identify his body from the ring he was wearing (a ring that had belonged to his father). The Effect of Leaving the Casket Open Mamie was informed that her son had been found on September 1. She refused to go to Mississippi and insisted that her sons body be shipped to Chicago for burial. Emmetts mother made the decision to have an open-casket funeral so that everyone could see what they have done to my boy. Thousands came to see Emmetts badly beaten body, and his burial was delayed until September 6 to make room for the crowds. Jet  magazine, in its September 15 edition, published a photo of Emmetts battered body lying on a funeral slab.  The Chicago Defender  also ran the photo. Tills mothers decision to make public this photo galvanized African-Americans across the country, and his murder made the front page of newspapers all over the world. Scott Olson /  Getty Images The Trial Roy Bryants and J.W. Milams trial started on September 19 in Sumner, Mississippi. The two main witnesses for the prosecution, Mose Wright and Willie Reed, identified the two men as having been the ones to kidnap Till. The trial lasted five days, and the jury spent a little over an hour in deliberation, reporting that it took so long because they paused to have a soda. They acquitted Bryant and Milam. Immediate Protest Reaction Protest rallies took place in major cities across the country after the verdict. The Mississippi press reported that one even occurred in Paris, France. Bryant Grocery and Meat Market eventually went out of business. Ninety percent of its customers were African-American, and they boycotted the place. Confession On January 24, 1956, a magazine published the detailed confessions of Bryant and Milam, who reportedly received $4,000 for their stories. They admitted to killing Till, knowing that they could not be retried for his murder because of  double jeopardy. Bryant and Milam said they did it to make an example out of Till, to warn others of his kind to not come down to the South. Their stories solidified their guilt in the publics mind. In 2004, the U.S. Justice Department reopened the case of Tills murder, based on the idea that more men than just Bryant and Milam—who by that point had died—were involved in Tills murder. No further charges were filed, however. Legacy Rosa Parks  said of her refusal to move to the back of a bus (in the segregated South, the front of the bus was reserved for whites): I thought of Emmett Till, and I just couldnt go back. Parks was not alone in her sentiment. Many famous figures including Cassius Clay and Emmy Lou Harris describe this event as a turning point in their activism. The image of Tills battered body in his open casket served as a rallying cry for African-Americans who joined the  civil rights movement  to ensure there would be no more Emmett Tills. How To Using Cad Pose Estimation Models For Undamaged...

Abstract Through picture detection we can determine the vehicles accident scene. This system that determines the damage of a vehicle to the surface area. The vehicle user can upload some photographs of the damaged vehicle taken from a device and automatically assessment the damage vehicle and processing done by claim to insurance. This system may include a device (such as scanner) that generates data representative the vehicle damage area. Since vehicles shown reflective metallic bodies when the photographs taken in such as uncontrolled environment can be expected there. This system computing a device that processing the data to detect the vehicle damage items and also estimate the damage using this process. Therefore, we propose try to†¦show more content†¦The original parts and projected parts of 3D model are not match in the photograph vehicle damages. Image based segment method using for contour initial information for this 3D pose of projecting parts to the 3D model. Hence, we m ainly focused vehicles image and also reflective the surface of the vehicle body. Now, another problem is pose estimation in computer vision that application is used in vision image analysis. Generally, the process of pose estimation of obtained an object part of location to its surroundings. Here, our work is also restricted for non-articulated object. 3D pose estimation required application to application by accuracy and nature. Here application depends on subset 3D pose parameters. And also obtained to set image information to apply techniques structure from motion in different geometric view. Therefore, this application when completed then go to stereo matching image. In order to various features of the image are detected and also matched. Core Background Study Blob detection Blob detection is kind of technique where the system can trace movement object of vehicles. Therefore, light and color must be defined together for blob detection and also find new blob. This system also using in the new image frame of the blob. And also need to define location, size, pixels etc. to the blob. Also used this threshold step for this image where image source can be

Time Of The Past Free Essays

At the age of 25 I was one of the most treasured managers in a profitable company in my small village town. My repute had entangled the whole town and this is why everybody gazed at me every time I went down the streets doing my shopping like every body else. My life style was the most expensive you would envisage because every shoe and cloth I put on was imported. We will write a custom essay sample on Time Of The Past or any similar topic only for you Order Now At this time I did not mind so much about the future since I was single and had no one to care for except my parents who needed little of my financial help because they were already well of. My lucrative job was something that I cherished so much that I devoted most of my time in ensuring that I remained the top performing manager in the company. As a result I had several opportunities of attending sponsored conferences not only in my country but also outside the country. I was far much ahead of many friends I learnt with, and this gave me every reason to celebrate my life and achievements. Due to this, I had no option but to detach myself from many of my friends who would book appointments if they wanted to meet up with me. It seemed like the supply of riches by the creator had been directed towards my side because everything seemed elegant to me. The company had offered me with a number of company vehicles the rationale for which I have by no means been able to ascertain to this day. But I gape that the company was making super normal profits which made the president plan less and did not care about the unwarranted company expenditures. As a result, the company’s performance begun to dwindle but disproportionately to what the company gained at the end of the day. Little did any one of us notice that losing a single consumer was the commencement of a big down fall that awaited us. Decisions were made without a vision of expanding the operations of the company to make the company top its competitors. We thought that we had reached the sun only to comprehend later that we had not stepped in the moon. What followed will always remain in my mind as the most downbeat and hardest part of my life to this day. My pay was reduced by half because the company begun making massive losses and most of our customers lost confidence in the company. My job remained at stake because the marketing department that I headed was the key in sourcing for customers who kept the company flying high but in contradiction they were leaving. After a short while a letter of termination of my services knocked on my door and since I didn’t have any share in the company I had no option but to relinquish my duties. Huge loans that I had obtained from different institutions became a major headache because I had no other source of income. Auctioneers became my regular visitors as they frequently knocked on my door to take whatever was equivalent to the debts I had. A few months that followed found me in the streets dining with people I had all along thought I would never brush shoulders with. This time it was more degrading because people either laughed or sympathized with my situation. To this day I live yearning for those days when I was the head of marketing department at Hill Cage Company. Â   Â   How to cite Time Of The Past, Essays

In order to manage business activities or operations, there are various innovative ideas or innovative technology has been adopted by business organisations. Therefore innovation in business organisation has become topic of interest for many researchers. The research is important to be carried out as there are a number of benefits of applying innovation in the business. Innovation in perspective to the business organizations can be related to the adoption of the new technology system, strategic innovation, manufacturing innovation etc. This research has an objective to analyze the appliance of innovation and its benefit for McDonald's in terms of enhancing the profitability(Cuellar, 2015). Potential output of research The expected output of the research is as follows: The benefits of innovation for McDonald`s Risks associated with innovation, that may cause issues for business Preferences of customers, as what innovation they want in the product Overall impact of innovation on McDonalds business Conceptual framework Innovation means adoption of new ideas, strategies for the better mental and for increasing output. It is a very complicated procedure which requires time and effectivemanpower. Innovation is mainly applied to increase the productivity of the company's product and also to increase the profit graph of the concerned. Under this importance is given to improve the quality of the product, goods used in manufacturing, effective use of management, achieving the set goals, customer satisfaction etc. Innovation is a time con process but it immensely helps in expansion of consumers in the market. It is an important aspect for the growth and production(Cuellar, 2015). Under this process, new technologies are undertaken to increase profit and also to satisfy the consumer. Innovation not only helps in the betterment of consumer's live with innovative ideas and effective management. Management's mainly focuses on the consumer. They use to take feedback regarding their products. By this, they come to know whether the existing product needs any change or quality improvement etc. Effective management plays an important role inquality improving the product. Management's main aim to make effective strategies for product modification(LOPEZ, 2015). In context to social aspects, innovation supportsin forming new methods forjoint venturing alliance creation, flexible work hours, joint venturing, and creation purchasing power of buyers'. The two broad classifications of innovation are- Evolutionary innovations is also regarded as dynamicor continuous orevolutionary innovation, which brings about through various upsurge advances in processes or technology. On the other hand, revolutionary innovations which are also known as discontinuous innovations; these are frequently disruptive and new(Wiech , 2013). The types of innovation can be differentiated on the basis of 10 categories, which are: Profit model How the price of the service or product is set by the company in an innovative manner to gain profit. For instance, innovation done by Gillette with razor and blades model. Structure Innovation in the structure of the company. For instance, innovation is done in organization`s structure, such as improvement in the formal structure of the organization to make it flexible( Bougie Sekaran, 2016). Network Innovation can be done by the organization in regards to external relationships and partnerships. For instance, a collaboration of Toshiba with UPS for repairmen of Toshiba laptops. Product performance Developing a new product that comprehends new features. For instance, transparent vacuum cleaner launched by Dyson without any bag. Process Innovation in the process to carry out things in a different manner. For instance, the process of car hire was completely changed by Zip car(Baer, 2017). Product system Innovation in the product system is one of the methods of innovation. It is related with how the product of an organization connects. For instance, a group of independent developers was being used by Mozilla to create its plug-ins and Firefox. Service Innovation related with services, such as value added services or additional support to the clients or customers. For instance, free delivery of products to the customers. Channel This type of innovation is related to the way an organization grasps the market. For instance, Amazon provides a service to users for ordering and downloading Kindle book in less than two minutes. Brand Innovation in context to the brand is related to the promise made by the company. For instance, many companies make a promise that their customers will not be disappointed with the product or services(Beard, 2014). Customer Engagement Another innovation is related to the engagement of customers. For instance, the experience of clients is used to be valued and the emphasis is given on providing a pleasant experience to the clients with innovative manner. It is confirmed that an organization can pursue innovation in every single structural function for e.g. in HR, Marketing, Sales, and Operations. As a result, each and every department might have distinct innovation metrics and objectives. In short, everything can be innovated; however, it needs a creative idea and some resources. Conceivably it is more supportive to state that innovation is of two type successful and unsuccessful. Innovations related to successfulness facilitates in improvising value for the business in addition to the customers. Unsuccessful innovation does not provide value to the customers and to the business. Successful or unsuccessful innovation differs by industry, on the other hand, in general, the launch of new products majorly fails to come across their objectives. Innovation is almostplacing an approach or idea into action. Innovation can be generally described as' effective exploitation of ideas in a commercially way'. Positive innovation mainly concerns about forming oradding value. Innovation can be done through: improvising existing products, services or processes or (process innovation), or by producing new products, developing services or processes of value, which has not been in existence earlier (product innovation). Innovation can originate through many practices: Refining or changing business processes in order to upturn competence and efficiency, or to empower the business to prolong the range of existing products or services. Manufacturing a new product or developing a service may facilitate the business in meeting the requirements or demands of the consumers. Beside this, it may also facilitate in creating value to for existing services or products. Innovation also helps the business organization to compete with the competitors; as by offering an innovative product or services organization may gain competitive advantage(LOPEZ, 2015). In whatever manner innovation is carried out, it intends to a creative process. The concepts or idea for innovation can come from several ways, such as- Inside the business for e.g. from sales staff, in-house designers, employees etc. Outside the business- for e.g. media reports, customers, market research insights, suppliers, or from contacts at research organizations The successful idea for innovation derives from purifying those several ideas, classifying those ideas in such a manner that the business will lay emphasis on and smearing funds and assets to exploit them. Benefits of innovation- Innovation offers a large number of benefits for the business organizations, such as: Increase in profit margin Product differentiation Satisfying needs of consumer Markets development Personalized services Product expansion Retaining or upturn in market quota Securing a market strategic position New business prospects Rise in competitive advantage Use of economies of scale. Risks in innovation Besides the benefits, innovation also brings risk for the business, such as- Product may not be accepted by the market; Innovation requires high investments, which may be not paid back for the duration of the product lifecycle(Cuellar, 2015). While innovating a product or service, it requires excessive deliberation of resources. In case, attention is not paid to the resources then while the innovation process, then wastage of resources may occur; which is a risk for the business. When the innovation is carried out in a partnership, then there is the possibility of transfer of risk to a certain partner. Company becomes dependent particularly on the new product Innovation is not at all times what is required by the world. Many innovations are not being valued by the customers, and this resulted as insolvency of business organizations. The organizations which failed due to innovation are not recognized by the individuals, however, the successful innovations bring positive impact on business(Kaufmann Ruediger, 2014). The scarcity of innovative ideas in the business organizations is not there. As employees working in an organization have new ideas that may bring success in a particular or whole area of business. However, it is up to the management, whether to accept the innovative idea or not. Stick on an old concept in perspective to the business is not always good. As consumers need some change in the product or services, and this need of consumer can be fulfilled by offering them a new product or service(Beard, 2014). Employee`s ideas or concepts shall be considered as a suggestion, as it may help the business organization to gain success. Management shall determine a collaborative approach to make decisions regarding innovation and to move ahead from one phase to the next phase of the innovation process. This could be done by involving employees from different departments of the organization, as well as concerning the consumers. Involvement of employees are important as an innovation can also impact on the employees performance and other aspects(Baer, 2017). Therefore, in order to persist, business organizations must develop, and must innovate its processes. The role of management in context to supporting innovation should be: Providing suggestions to employees regarding innovations and helping them to assess the areas which require innovation. Hiring applicants who are creative and have potential to actually innovate(LOPEZ, 2015). Displaying flexibility in context to the allocation of resources for innovation. Showering reward to employees, who have given a best innovative idea. Innovation by the business organizations shall also be done by considering the needs and demands of the customers. As business organizations have an objective i.e. satisfying the needs of customers. For instance, by satisfying customer`s demand and needs, sales can be escalated and this in ten will facilitate in an upsurge of profit for the company. Hence while developing an innovative product or service, it is important for the business organizations to analyze the needs, preferences, and demands of the customers. The product shall be developed accordingly(Jajaee, 2012). In order to deliver value, it is important for innovators that they should consider that all new ideas or concept are not certainly good. It shall be acknowledged by the management that their clientele may be superior judges of the subsequent best thing (i.e. innovative product). For each and every organization, the meaning of innovation is different. As for an instance, the organizations which have a profit-based motive, consider innovation as a magic wand; which intensifies profitability for the business. Methodology The nature of research is qualitative. Hence, the qualitative research methodology will be followed for collection of data and analyzing the data. Universe- The universe for the research from which the sample will be taken is customers of McDonald's in Australia. Sample- Sampling is the process in which total population is divided into some manageable numbers and on which data collection technique will be applied. The number of samples for the research will be 500 customers of the McDonalds in Australia. Individuals who use to visit McDonald`s on a regular basis will be approached for the research, this will help in gathering relevant data for research. Sampling technique- There are many sampling technique that can be used to divide total population and then select sample from the same. There are simple random sampling, stratified simple sampling and many other many other. In this research, in this number of samples is going to be selected or taken by using simple random sampling technique. Regular customers of the McDonald`s will be selected on the random basis( Bougie Sekaran, 2016). Approaching this sampling technique will be supportable for the research; a number of respondents can be selected randomly without any biases. Data collection- The data will be collected through primary methods of data collection. There are a number of methods that can be approached in order to collect the data but in this research we will be using collected from survey or questionnaire. The collected data is used to be analyzed in order to reach the conclusion. Survey technique will be used to collect the data(Olsen, 2011). In the survey, a questionnaire will be prepared to gather the data from the respondent samples. The questions will be linked with the research question, so that objective of the research could be accomplished. The data collected through the survey will be asserted in order to get relevant information which can be analyzed through data analysis procedure. In questionnaire, both closed ended and open ended questions will be asked in questionnaire. Data analysis- Collected data will be analyzed through statistical measures. The data will be collected in descriptive form; however, there will be some figures that could be analyzed through applying statistical techniques( Wetcher, 2011). This technique will be approached, as statistical analysis provides better results when a number of sample respondents are more. Organization of the study, project budget, and schedule Organisation of study The research will be organized in the manner stated below- The chapter first- It is related to the introduction of research. Chapter second- It will provide a detail information about the research problem. Chapter third- It figures out the objectives, aims and the questions of the research. The wasp factory essays

The wasp factory essays Ian Banks novel The Wasp Factory explores the strange, sadly comic, offbeat world of a sixteen year old boy called Frank who lives with his dislocated father and psychotic brother, Eric, in an isolated area of Scotland. As I read the novel I find Franks life consists of grotesque behaviour worthy of any horror story, yet cruelly humorous. My essay will explore the way in which I believe Banks allows the character of Frank to perpetrate macabre, wicked deeds while still managing to engage my sympathy, support and amusement for this tortured soul. For me, Banks has achieved this, by portraying Frank as someone whose behaviour is merely a logical defence to the people and events that surround him in his chaotic life. The novel is written in the first person narrative, giving I feel, a real insight into Franks thoughts and strange reasoning. I am made to feel like his supporter, his confidante, one of only a few he can trust. I was never registered. I have no birth certificate, no national insurance number and nothing to say I am alive or have ever existed. By sharing this with me I understand Frank is declaring his difference, his isolation. As I read on I realise Frank believes his father plays a large part in this isolation. An illustration of this is Franks description of the relationship between him and his father ...an educated man.., ...a doctor of perhaps biochemistry. Frank and his father obviously enjoy a competitive and yet slightly cruel life together. This can be seen when Franks father deliberately misinforms the boy on answers to questions Frank has asked. By the time Frank can...reach the highest shelves of the house library, and walk into Porteneil to visit the one there... he realises his father has deceived him. No wonder then, I feel, that Frank has a sense of insecurity which develops in him a need for control over his enviro...

The Republic of Zakville (Jurisprudence) Case Study

The Republic of Zakville (Jurisprudence) - Case Study Example Each year thousands of Chinese citizens are put to death for petty offences. Many are carried out in secret and thus go unreported. Exactly what criteria nations like these employ to deal out this kind of punishment is a question that compels the investigation of different kinds of laws that operate on a society. This is jurisprudence - the theory and philosophy of law. The study aims to appreciate the elementary nature of law and examine its rationale, organization, and relevance. Viewed practically, studying law and how it functions can help find ways to improve society. Irrational laws can be attacked as being contrary to natural law and morally unjust. Together, natural laws and positive laws form the scope of jurisprudence. The word jurisprudence derives from the Latin term juris prudentia, which means "the study, knowledge, or science of law (Tyler)." It is also called the philosophy of law and there are four common aspects in legal philosophy. Jurisprudence theory can also be classified into two types of analysis: One is analytic jurisprudence which studies laws "as is". The other is normative jurisprudence which studies law that "ought to be" Analytic jurisprudence is using an unbiased view point and evocative language when discussing various aspects of the legal system. The law is viewed "as is" and considered only as it exists. Some important questions of analytic jurisprudence are: What is law What is a legal system What is the relationship between law and morality Do all societies have a legal system How should concepts like legal rights and obligations be understood Normative jurisprudence discusses what law ought to be. Also questions of morality and what values are important are looked into. Some important questions of normative jurisprudence are: What is the proper function of law What kind of criminal behavior deserves punishment and what are the permissible types of punishment What rights do people have and what is justice Does society have a duty to obey the law and what value does the rule of law have In the case of animal rights activist Miss Edwin, a trial held in secret directly contravenes general moral human laws. A fair trial one in which both sides of the case is heard by an impartial judge and jury is commonplace in many nations. Such a trial gives the defendant a chance to prove his or her innocence and reduces the chance of sending an innocent person to jail or suffer capital punishment. In the UK, the law clearly states that the accused are deemed innocent until proven guilty. This is not a law of nature

Hillside School New Payment and Billing System Case Study

Hillside School New Payment and Billing System - Case Study Example From this discussion it is clear that the vice principal will certainly have enough space to carry out some more administrative responsibilities. The second benefit associated with this simplified system is that the heaviness of responsibility that the vice principal had to bear every school season are going to be reduced. Unlike it happened before, the vice principal can breath a sign of relieve from tedious work now. She is now sure to channel most of her time and effort into ensuring academic excellence in the school. Considering the fact that Hillside School is still a school with a lot of very young boys and girls, the vice principal’s duty can also be channeled towards ensuring high morals and discipline in the school. This study highlights that the decision table is purposely to look into the discounts available to parents. Generally, there are discounts in place to serve as motivation for parents who show some level of commitment to the school. The discounts are in two major forms and shall be discussed in detail when designing the decision table. Motivation to customers; in this case parents of students has been described as highly important in several ways. In the view of Cherry, â€Å"motivation is defined as the process that initiates, guides and maintains goal-oriented behaviors.† By and large, motivation is needed as reinforcement to spark up a strong urge or desire in getting people put up certain behavior. In a school such as Hillside School which is a relatively new school, motivation in the form of discount to parents is therefore a step in the right direction. Not withstanding the importance of motivation discussed above, it is important that decisions on motivation be run efficiently. It is important that the school has a common system that ensures that there is a level playing field for all parents to benefit from the program.

Social Problem In Jakarta

Social Problem In Jakarta Nowadays in Jakarta, there are many problems that trouble the civilians in Jakarta. Since Jakarta is the Central of Indonesia and have the biggest population, we must care and protect each other because we are living in the same city. Many factors which cause damages in all areas, these problems are high level of pollution which makes the environment dirty and spread out some dangerous diseases. The next problem that sometime causes death is poverty because the poor people who cannot afford to buy some food are forced to starve to death, or maybe they couldnt get medication for their sickness. These problems interest me to observe and study about these things. I would like to help make Jakarta, a better place for the citizens of Jakarta itself. There are a lot of problems are happening here in Jakarta, like flood, poverty, etc. These problems create a bad image in the world; moreover the problems are caused by us. We cant deny that all these problems are difficult to solve. Everyone should work together, and to realize the urgent need them. The government should issue strict rules and regulations, and to fully bind them, so that it wont be easy to broke Poverty The Poverty rate in Jakarta is very high. Poor people scattered in many places. The number of the population in Jakarta is way too high compared to job vacancy or job opportunities. This lack of job vacancy causes unemployment to rise beyond prediction. The unemployment causes difficulty for the people to raise their living. Some of them are lazy to work, but the rest of them still want to work. The people who want to work, some of them dont have the chance because the problem in their education level. Maybe their parents dont have enough money to send them to school. This lack of education could cause many troubles. Starts from crime, some of them are depressed because they cant have a job, they might steal from the other, and furthermore they would kill the person to get money if it is necessary. But not all thieves are poor people and lowly educated person, but some are lazy and want to make money faster in the wrong way. These thieves wouldnt be tolerated in the society because these law breakers risk other peoples lives. These thieves become thief not because of their own will, some of them HAVE to be thief to live their life, they cannot think of any other way to get money in the right ways. They are too depressed and cant even think about it. Next its about beggar, too many beggar in Jakarta, they are countless. In each traffic light you will see them, and maybe you will get shocked because most of them live in the traffic sidewalk, not one, but the whole family live in there, can you imagine that? The worst thing in there is that there are some ungrateful parents send their son or daughter to be beggars. And there are people which collect the children by renting them and make the children work for them, being a beggar in the street. And if they cannot make money, these people who rent these children will give punishments to them. These punishments are harsh ones, such as slapping, punching, kicking, and even break their leg or hand in order to attract the sympathy of the people, so that these people would give money to them. However, whatever type of begging is not good, because people could find work if they really desire it. And the last is about people who are dying, they cannot get money for themselves, maybe some of them have to search foods in garbage dump, which possibly contains various kinds of diseases. They cannot buy medicine to recover themselves, once they are contaminated by these diseases. And they just wait about the death time. Some people are suffering and they died because of it. We know the government have started to find the solution and they have started to move. They have to make regulations about these problems in Jakarta, about people whose caught do crime will be send to the jail and must pay some value of money, about the beggar and place them in one place to take care of them, and about the children who dont have parents, those poor people too. The government should take care about them. The poverty in Jakarta is very easily noticed, those beggar in the street. They appear in nearly each and every sections of Jakarta. The fact that we are rich, but we cant protect whats rightfully ours. Like those islands claimed by the other nation, not to mention our sea territories, if only the government works harder, we wont have lost those territories. Our country is not supposed to side with the businessman, our nation fund the companies which as an equity already. When this occurs, a huge amount of money is spent for nothing, and some of them simply go to corruptors pocket. Our country is supposed to facilitate the poor-middle economic class society, so that they can live up, and improve their living Facilitating the poor-middle economy class society is a key to our success, if we could send these people to start a new life in those island which stolen already, the other nation wouldnt have disturb our complete nation. This solution can hardly be treated as a project, this solution is not meant to isolate the poor, but to give them chance of a new life. If the economy of Indonesia is strong, there is no doubt that we are secured and no other countries would dare to disturb us or to steal anything from us Corruption In the dictionary there are six definitions of Corruption. There are: Lack of integrity or honesty (especially susceptibility to bribery); use of a position of trust for dishonest gain in a state of progressive putrefaction Decay of matter (as by rot or oxidation) Moral perversion; impairment of virtue and moral principles Destroying someones (or some groups) honesty or loyalty; undermining moral integrity Inducement (as of a public official) by improper means (as bribery) to violate duty (as by committing a felony) The word corruption is fairly common here in Indonesia, particularly in the government of Indonesia. We can define Corruption as taking something from someone which doesnt belong to you. It is not exactly stealing; the difference is that Corruption is not always known or visible. The person who steals is called thief and who corrupts are called corruptor. The act of the thief like stole money from the bank, hijacking, etc. thats an open crime and we can see it. Its different from corruptor they not like thief. The acts are different. For example: their boss gives them $100 to deliver to the hospital. But they allocate or take some of them, for instance $10; maybe not all knows because they take the money hidden or invisible. Most of the person who are doing corruption that they have given the trust from their boss or the other so they can do things like that. In Jakarta the word Corruption is familiar to most of the people; they know that Corruptions happened everywhere, by everyone, in everything. For instance, you father give you 100.000 to buy one pair of shoes, and that shoes cost for 50.000. You must return 50.000 to your father but you just return 25.000 and you say that the cost of the shoes is 75.000 because you want spend the other 25.000 for the other things. That is the simple example of corruption which happened in here, for simple things, and for little amount of money. Those things happened in the government too. The differences are the size of the corruption with huge amount of money. Thats why KPK (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi) is created. The KPK itself have their own problem. Sometimes they work very well, but sometimes not. I dont know why the people who do Corruption in the Government do Corruption. I thought they have good salary, but why they still do Corruption. Are their salaries not enough for them? I never see th e governmental people lack of money. Maybe this is because their nature. Human never satisfied of everything. They have got high salary, but they still want get money, in the wrong way. Why they dont think to invest their money to business, and whatever in the right way. The people in the government must concern about the society. The society chooses them to be government official. And they should work to help the society. But how if they still doing Corruption, that will make disadvantages for the society. They must change their own way of thinking. The connection between Corruption and the fifth Principle As we know, corrupt mean taking something which not belong to you and disadvantages the other people. The fifth principle (Social Justice in Indonesia) is against the corruption. Just say about the governmental corruptor. They take something that making disadvantages to the society. They took money which not belongs to them. They dont care about that. They just need money. That is against the fifth principle. There isnt justice in there. They can do that corruption because their job in the governmental, the missing their job. They have job in government so they got more chance to do corruption. It is not very good. They dont even thinking about the people who doesnt have anything. Cant afford food for them. I think the peoples who work in governmental is have education background and have studied about Pancasila, so they must know about that, about do corrupt is not good, but still they do corruption. How if they still like that? They not are being a good example for the society. They didnt want to improve the Indonesia. They dont care about that. Too selfish and just think about the ir own needs. Traffic Jam Next about Traffic Jam. Traffic jam happened in many places in Jakarta. Particularly in the morning, when the student and the worker go to their school and office. The traffic jam happened because too many private car in Jakarta. I think the government should take care about it, they must control it. They can look from the other countries. Making the tax of the Vehicle high. So less people will use private car. In our transportation system, the problem is not only too many cars, the problems are the maintenance of the traffic light, the government is very unconcerned about his problem, if one is broken, itll take more than a month for the government to deal with it. The traffic jam is not governments responsibility; its all of the civilians responsibility Pollution Next is about pollution, about air pollution. Many things that causes air pollution. Start from the factories, the waste disposal. The waste is smoke, black smoke. Next from the vehicle. Many cars in Jakarta are not use properly. I mean the Car is supposed to use just for 5 years but they use it more. And they car which not take care by the owners. They didnt change the oil, did not tune-up the car. That can cause air pollution. Those cars will produce black smokes The car producers dont concern about the environmental balance, they only concern income, interest, revenue, and anything connected with money, in short economic factor. We are not blaming the car producer; this case isnt problem for them. However the government should concern about this, by rising private car tax, so that the producer would reduce their productivity. There are two things we should do; the first thing is not to extent the licenses of old cars, because old cars used to make more pollution compared to the new ones. This method is going to be applied by the government. The second method which is to help the consumer to regenerate their cars is going to be done by the producer itself Dangerous Waste The household waste which is simply thrown to the river is a problem, however its not so dangerous compared to the factorys waste, if the factorys waste is thrown to the river, the river might be poisonous, same thing goes for the hospital waste. There are a lot of reports of these threatening waste, but the government remains immobile The waste from the hospital is most dangerous, because its from there the deadly viruses flow to the rivers, rivers in which poor people used for bath, drink, and to wash dishes and clothes. These waste supposed to be allocated in the right way, if this pollution keeps happening, it will kill more people. Disease Because pollution happened everywhere, there is a big chance that it will cause diseases, mainly breathing diseases, such as TBC, which is one of the most deadly diseases. This pollution also caused the pollution of the water, it can also infect the land, so that, the land will became dysfunctional. Global Warming Global Warming happens because of the dangerous smoke which is mainly produced by factory and vehicles, especially cars and motorcycles. These gases are more than capable to destruct the ozone layers. Moreover these gases can cause diseases, mostly breathing problem, like cough, or lung failure. The ozone layer is very important because it is protecting us from the ultraviolet ray produced by the sun. Which means the earth is getting warm each and every second. The warming of the earth affects the ices in both poles, they melt faster than predicted, which means the sea level will increase drastically, the whole world is going to drown. Less Planting This lack of green planting reduces the green areas in the city which is the heart of the city. Because plants inhale CO2, which is a polluted gas, in the afternoon, and exhales oxygen, which is the gas we are breathing with, in the night. These plants are also able to absorb water to prevent flood. Flood (No Respiration Area) Because we lack of plants and trees causes lack of respiration are, so when its raining, there is no respiration, if the rain is getting harder, it may causes flood, which inflict great damages and loss everywhere and in every sector Too Many Rubbish Rubbish is one of the biggest problems in Jakarta. There are not enough spaces for the overflowing rubbish. What is worse is that the citizen of Jakarta doesnt realize the importance to keep the environment clean. People simply throw their rubbish anywhere, anytime, which will mess everything up. We should educate our children not to litter everywhere they like, they should put the trash into the trash bin. Littering properly is a must, in order to prevent flood and unhealthy environment. Because the environment is dirty, diseases are likely to spread. We cant deny that the trash wasted by the citizen of Indonesia is too much, what makes it even messier is the insufficient space to gather the trash. In order to solve this space problem, we have two solutions; the first is to burn all the trash, or to recycle them. However several parties have wrongly used the term recycle to their own advantages. For example, they recycle safety rubber into a chopstick cover. This is of course an unh ealthy thing to do, the viruses and bacteria from the condom would spread. Government should help and supervise the process of recycling, so that no one would break the law, and corrupt the environment. Especially for those who unaware of the environment. Clean Water Clean Water citizen of DKI Jakarta, will continuing to need clean water, in order to fulfill the needs of drinking and cooking. The clean water which supplied by PAM Jaya is not enough because there are some problems; In the south of Jakarta still need clean water seller to supply to the citizen which lack of water to drink and to cook. In the rain times, my central city Jakarta and the other places seems to have much water. More if the flood came, the water seen in everywhere. The rivers full of water. But, there question about that: Can that water be consumed by the people; because, according to the experts, the water in the river or water from the flood had been contaminated many kinds of bacteria. Water of the river in the central city has been proved full of Koli bactery that came from feces. Millions people of Jakarta and near Jakarta daily have a bad behavior to throw the garbage or Pee and Poo in the rivers. There are thirteen rivers that come from the north of Jakarta bearing viruses, and many other dangerous substances. The river is wrongly used as a garbage dump. Conclusion The conclusion is we and all the people expect no one must make awareness for them to build and make a good behavior to not litter, etc. And be social and dont be too selfish to just care about yourselves. Because human is social creature that need the others to live and to fulfill the needs. Care about the others too. Care about yours environment. Care about your Country. Care about your City. Care about Jakarta.

Biblical References in Pulp Fiction Essay -- Film Movie Quentin Tarant

Pulp Fiction Throughout the movie Pulp Fiction, directed by Quentin Tarantino, there are many hidden references to religion and the Bible. The movie starts off, introducing our two main characters, Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield, as two cheap hitmen in search of a package belonging to their boss, Marcellus Wallace. The package is retrieved, and they then began their job of returning it to their boss. Along the way, they ran into difficulties, such as Vega's so-called "date" with his boss' wife, Mia, during which she overdosed on heroin, and Vega was forced to take her to the drug dealer's house to save her life, as well as the robbers in the restaurant, who try to take the suitcase from Winnfield, but were unsuccessful. The whole movie serves as a warning to all mankind to avoid the temptations of the Devil, as well as a warning to not try to play God, because the two boys who stole the suitcase play the role of the Devil, as do the drugs, and they were almost the downfall of the whole attempt. The movie wasted no time in introducing the first biblical reference when the two men try to retrieve the suitcase containing Wallace's belongings. When Vega opened the suitcase, he used the combination "666" to open the suitcase, and when he opened it, the contents glowed a golden-orange color. This was obviously an introductory attempt to show the audience that the suitcase held Marcellus' soul. Perhaps Tarantino was trying to show that the people that stole the suitcase were the devils pawns, and these two hitmen were angels trying to retrieve stolen property. After Vega and Winnfield had obtained their "treasure," Winnfield quoted the Bible, specifically Ezekiel 25:17, the passage about destroying the evil members of the society that try to harm others for no reason. Part of that passage was "..and you will know my name is the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon thee." This quote shows that Winnfield sees what he is doing as heroic, or maybe angelic, and by carrying out his duties, he is following the word of the Lord. As Winnfield shot the boy, Brett, an orange-golden glow enveloped the screen, representing Brett's soul leaving his body. This whole part of the movie is to warn the evil-doers of the world to cease their wrongdoings, because there are people out there who will stop them. The next main scene of... ...od, sometimes what he does is not right, and he is trying to be the one that always does the right thing: the shepherd. This is another reason why Jules is not killed off. He realized that he cannot play God, and therefore he is forgiven. Vincent, however, never fully realized this, and he is punished at the end of the story by being killed by Butch. Although cleverly hidden, the signs of biblical inference and the power of God are extremely prevalent in the film. Elements of the plot such as the realization of wrongdoing by Jules, the general feeling that the Wallaces are trying to be all knowing and all powerful, the drug dealer being the downfall as well as the savior for Mia, and the way that Jules and Vincent try to control others lives and are punished for it all show us something. These signs show us that we must do as we think we should, and not try to control anyone but yourself, because if you are busy trying to control others, you may not be tending to yourself, leaving yourself wide open to manipulation by others like yourself. If we mind our own business and take care of ourselves, the world would go a lot smoother, and have many fewer conflicts.

Compare and Contrast the Classical and Positivist School

Compare and contrast the ideas of Classical criminologist (e. g. Beccaria and Bentham) with those of the early Positivist (e. g. Lombroso, Ferri Garofolo). IntroductionDuring the mid to late seventeenth century explanations of crime and punishment were embraced by many philosophers Thomas Hobbs (1588-1679), John Locke (1632-1704), and Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) and such theorist as Beccaria (1738), an Italian who was highly recognised by his great success through his essay ’Dei delitti e delle pene’ (On Crimes and Punishment) publicised in translations of 22 languages, effectively leaving huge impressions on the legal thoughts on members of the European and US society (Hopkins Burke 2009), developing the theory of ‘Classical criminology’ and Lombroso (1835) an Italian psychiatrist and a physician who brought forth the theory of the ‘Positivist’s criminology’. This essay will present the two contrasting theories within criminology, these are ‘the Classical’ and ‘the Positivist’ theory of criminology, presenting a brief introduction to each school of thought with the theories and their theorist, comparisons will drawn presenting contrasts to each theory’s principle, with their methodological, scientific and philosophical approaches to crime, with the same aim to reduce and control crime. Hale,C. ,et al (2005 p. 62).The school of thought ‘Classical criminology’ developed during the times of enlightenment through the ideas of a theorist named Cesare Beccaria (1738-94), who studied crimes, criminal behaviour and punishments, with beliefs that those who commit crime hold responsibility for themselves and are uninfluenced by external factors building the foundations for other successful proponents and advocates such as Cesare Lombroso (1836-1909), an Italian psychiatrist aspirant who presented theoretical explanations to crime and criminality though scientific methodolo gy adapting the contrasting theory of the positivist Contrastingly, the positivist school believed that the decisions people make when committing a crime are principally affected by ‘means' out of their control. These ‘means' that affect an individual's condition to make rational decisions can be based on physical, that is for example their race, social, such as weak social bonds at school or the amily, biological, that is having genetic abnormalities and psychological factors such as mental health disorders (Pond p. 23).. Through Beccarias’ observational studies witnessed many discrepancies within the government and public affairs, and ostracized the inhumanity and inequality shown to individuals within society, where the punishment of crimes were judged on the social status of an individual (Hopkins Burke 2001). Beccaria believed the ‘Criminal as Calculator’ highlighting the importance that every criminal is an individual and is aware of what is goo d from bad, what is right from wrong, understanding definitions of criminal behaviour in society therefore each individual is competent n the calculations that he or she makes, presenting the notion of ‘Free will Choice’ and the ‘Hendonistic Calculas’ principle where the distinct actions of an individual are measured through a pleasure and pain scale, with this Beccaria made further contributions towards Bentham’s theory of Ulitiarianism (which is based on the assumption that the ultimate aim of all human activity is happiness), disputing that creating new legislations indicating that a clear law should set out which is easily deciphered by its societal members to understand and set by legislators, Beccaria views that the prevention of crime is better than the punishment, however, punishment must be dealt with swiftly not limiting or exceeding what is necessary for the prevention and deterrence of crime, therefore resulting in the greater happiness o f the majority (McLaughlin and Muncie, 2006), however there should be impartial judges fixing strict punishments in proportion to the seriousness of the crime, for example, petty crimes and theft should be dealt with fixed fines and penalties and more serious crimes administered with corporal punishment and labour (Hopkins Burke, 2009).With this Beccaria developed further studies within the ‘Social contract’ theory, the voluntary agreement of the members of an organised society and its government securing mutual protection and welfare regulating the relation among its members, explaining that the previous methods of torture through capital punishment was unnecessary, he deemed these barbaric and inhumane, through this Beccaria began developing ideas that the crime itself should be dealt with efficiently not the criminal, thus the individual should be penalised for the crime committed. Each and every individual member of society whether an abiding member or criminal has equal rights and this always remains.Beccaria’s classical school of thought brought about scholars Bentham (1748) an English juror and philosopher who defensively argued that punishment should be a deterrent for criminals, that penalties be fixed to inflict the sum of pain in surfeit of the pleasure that had derived from the criminal act (Hale, Hayward Wahidin and Wincup, 2005) and Howard (1726) who was influential upon Prison reform (1779), However crime and criminal behaviour continuing to present itself still necessitated explanations as to why crime was still on the uprise Lombroso provided foundations for many other proponents such Ferri (1856), a biologist who wrote a new penal code for Mussolini which was instantly revoked due to his positivist approach and Garofolo (1852). How to Write a Research Paper on Career Research Paper on Career How to write a research paper on career How to start a research paper Tips on how to start Example of an outline Example of a thesis statement for a career research paper Example of an introduction How to write body paragraphs of a research paper on career Tips on body writing Example of the 1st body paragraph Example of the 2nd body paragraph Example of the 3rd body paragraph How to finish a research paper on career Tips on conclusion writing Example of a conclusion Tips on research paper revision How to write a research paper on career Preparing a research paper on career is a quite complicated process which should be done step-by-step. Before writing such a paper, a student needs to assess their skills, talents, and knowledge and then provide it with evaluating career through a research paper study. How to start a research paper A good start will require a thorough assessment and analysis in choosing his/her career. It is a detailed orientation of the article being discussed. This will clearly put into consideration the good definition of the career. Tips on how to start Follow the basic rules and format requirements for making a research paper. These rules regard plotting an outline, writing an introduction, body, and conclusion. Example of an outline I. Introduction a. Giving an aim and facts to capture readers. b. Statement of the problem (thesis statement). II. Body Section 1 a. Central idea (career choice). b. An in-depth explanation about a career choice. III. Body Section 2 a. Provide stories, facts, or statistics about the potential career. b. Cause/effect (What is the positive outcome of the chosen field? What is attractive about it?) IV. Body Section 3 a. Actions to be taken (What is your edge in obtaining this? What preparation to be needed in order to get it?) b. Overall opinion on the research topic V. Conclusion a. Relate back to an introduction for an analytical summary. b. Restatement of the thesis thesis reworded. c. Recommendations. Example of a thesis statement for a career research paper A thesis is a statement of purpose. A good and strong thesis statement surprises the readers with something new. It should be focused and thus it should not be broad. Also, it should be debatable in order to appeal to the readers and inspire them to continue reading. It should have supporting information. Remember that it is the main idea you are going to support. Get straight to the point. Sales Professional is a great career for me since it matches my interests in selling products/services. It is already in our family to sell things and I am already preparing for this career. Example of an introduction The aim of introduction is to introduce to the reader the purpose of your research paper. This is the manner where you will situate the key of your topic. Necessity and significance are important to this area. As the advent of competition and the status of economy these days are unpredictable, a career should be determined and planned properly. The condition of employment differs from every country and region but according to news around the world, employment is widespread. On the other hand, many professions are to be chosen out there and the demands are available. But, an issue of a solid career we are going to choose and to commit is in question. Do we know our career goals? Am I going to love my career? These are just some of the questions to ponder with in choosing a career to achieve. There were mistakes that happened after a person graduated from an academy. This is the reason why a person needs a career research paper to weigh and measure the choices. Currently, there are more studies that present the positive side of making a career research paper. This research paper will define the career I want and the steps to follow in order to obtain it. You can use additional statistics and thesis in the introduction to present applicable data that proves your point. It will create credibility and significance of the main idea of the composition. How to write body paragraphs of a research paper on career The body paragraphs are the most important content of the research. This is where you can explain the nature, roles, responsibilities, qualifications, and challenges of the career you have selected. In most cases, you will be discussing the level of difficulty and challenges of pursuing the career. You might consider expecting the package or remuneration you will receive from this occupation. In order to satisfy your thesis statement alone, you can use related studies also on why this is the best career you have singled out. Tips on body writing Give examples for guidance Include the statement or argument to freshen up the readers Provide stories and facts to prove your points Improve the body by stating the methods to achieve the outcome Dont forget to cite the actions to back your methods Make sure to phrase everything and break your paper down into a series of related points to support your statement Remember the characteristics of a paragraph, there should be unity, development, and coherence. Example of the 1st body paragraph The life of a sales professional is a very rewarding and satisfying job. You can be a boss or a entrepreneur with financial destiny. According to Somen Mondal, a CEO, he told to his students that a career in sales should be the first job in a career. Explain what it means and why it is important. You must be sure what you are saying in 1-2 sentences only. Example of the 2nd body paragraph My skills and knowledge are applicable to a salesman career. I have the speaking skills, confidence, energy and I am a result-oriented person. Sales are everywhere, as the author mentioned. It is one of the foundations of every successful career. Moreover, it is already surveyed from business leaders that the rated strong sales skills are top critical skills of todays employment. The second body paragraph is not as complicated one. It only supports the statements you are giving. Additional details like salary can be included. Example of the 3rd body paragraph Explain your argument to prove what you are trying to deal with. It can be opinion-based. This would entail what you will need to do and what youre doing to get this career. I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in a recognized university in the country. I have done my internship in PG as Sales Associate under Corporate Business Development. I have learned skills in sales, marketing, and business development. Therefore, I believe that I will be able to start my career in Sales as they can be able to review my asset as a contributor to their organization. I am currently sending resumes and preparing certificates for a credential. How to finish a research paper on career Finalize everything you mentioned about this topic by wrapping up the whole research in the conclusion. Tips on conclusion writing Include stating the entire study by summarizing the relevant main points Make it short and do not put excessive details Provide next steps Universalize (compare to other career situations) Suggest results Example of a conclusion In a nutshell, sales profession is a rewarding and satisfying job. This occupation is backed up with top critical skills of today’s employment and an exciting occupation. Therefore, a person needs to have the appropriate educational background, skills, training, and knowledge in order to attain this profession. Lastly, sales profession can be the main job in persons life and also can be just a step in a solid career path. Tips on research paper revision Examine the paper by reviewing the whole research from the start. Review if the thesis statement is credible to make an important point. Check the pattern of your paper if it follows everything. Evaluate also the information if the facts are all accurate. Reorganize the information if necessary and remove any misleading statement. Check your conclusion if it ties up the paper together. Read the paper aloud and see how it will go.

Formative Assessment Paper Research Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Formative Assessment - Research Paper Example In this paper, I describe how I will create a formative assessment for a class I will be teaching and the role the psychometric models will play in my creation of the assessment. Moreover, I explain how I will use observation situation in my assessment and discuss the challenges I expect to encounter during creation of my assessment. 1. Creating a formative assessment for my class According to Brookhart (2010), it is necessary to organizing a formative assessment as a regular part of a learning instruction. The formative assessment will be organized in such a way that it will be incorporated into my teaching instructions. Before creating it, I will first decide what its purpose will be by selecting a formative assessment strategy that will serve my intended purpose better. I will then apply the formative assessment strategy I have selected to choose particular learning goals I will be assessing in my formative assessment. In addition, I will select what I will look for as my students undertake the assessment. Together we will think about how this assessment will help us in improving the learning process. Formative assessment chain consists of four activities which are: taking student response, monitoring the response, diagnose this response, share feedback based on this diagnose, helping student to use this feedback to learn better (Tuttle, 2010). In designing my formative assessment, I aim to consider all the four activities. I will first put into consideration the students’ responses based on what I suspect their learning skills and abilities are when selecting what to assess and how to assess it. After this, I will design a method that I can use to diagnose their response so that I can be able to determine their strength, weakness, and abilities. Then I will share the feedback from diagnose with my students and lastly using my knowledge and experience I will help my students to use this feedback to improve their learning. My formative assessment will have three components that are the feed-up, feedback and feed-forward. The main aim of feed-up will be to ensure that my students will always understand the purpose of the assignments, tasks, and lessons in use as part of my assessment. According to Frey and Fisher (2010), purpose drives both feedback and feed-forward. Thus, by ensuring that my students understand what they do and what they come across, I am certain I will be able to obtain accurate feedback that will be easy to implement in my feed-forward. I will use the feedback to obtain the information about the strengths and needs of my students. I will also use them to provide my students with this information. My main source of feedbacks will be assignments outcomes, observing how my students undertake the tasks, and assessing those tasks. I will observe how they learn during lessons. Most of this feedback will be in data form and, thus, they will require analysis and interpretation. I will use my statistical analysis and st atistical modeling to enhance my understanding of this data to give my students feedback that is as accurate as possible. I will use my feed-forward to guide my students’ learning based on the feedback I obtain from their performance data. In this component, I will put into consideration the students’ strengths, needs and weaknesses to design a teaching framework that can improve the learning of my students. In addition, I will be helping

Critically assess the mV and digital policyain elements of the EU Essay

Critically assess the mV and digital policyain elements of the EU policy on HDT - Essay Example Through television, a lot of telecommunication companies has been put up which provides work for millions of people. It is where product commercials are aired. It is also where public concerns and responsibilities were discussed. While each and every national government has set up its own rules with regards to telecommunication, the European Union has also set its guidelines and policies to maintain and level the playing fields of the telecommunication competition. In this era where digital technologies were making its way to communication highways and prospectively play a much bigger role in the future, the European Union has identified the needs of introducing digital technologies harmoniously into the market. By means of a consensus process involving all the relevant economic agents, this aim can be easily achieved. There are 6 different areas of audiovisual activities which are covered by the commission. According to the Principles and guidelines for the Communitys audiovisual policy in the digital age (2005), On the basis of these principles, the Commission intends to take action in the following fields: the new "Media plus" programme, considered to be of crucial importance for the future of the European audiovisual industry. In all areas of action (training, development, distribution, promotion) this new programme will take account of the new digital environment. The external dimension of Community audiovisual policy will necessarily hinge around two central elements: the enlargement of the European Union and the new round of multilateral trade negotiations in the framework of the World Trade Organisation. This Directive which was adopted in 1989 and revised in 1997, based from Television broadcasting activities: "Television without Frontiers" (TVWF) Directive(2006) is the cornerstone of the European Unions audiovisual policy. Its two basic principles

Freedom of speech Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Freedom of speech - Essay Example The law should not limit them from using the best tools available, which is what currently exists. This ban is not only discriminatory but unreasonable. It assumes that the persons involved in vandalism are under the age of 21. Further, it suggests that persons in that age group are not able to decipher what constitutes wholesome, responsible and proper behavior from what does not. This ban is an act of suppression of the right to progress beyond limits placed by the authorities. It forces persons under the age of 21 to break laws which hinders on their progress and prevents them from expressing themselves in a wholesome manner. In so doing it casts them in the light of being law breakers. It needlessly casts a level of guilt on that age group and reduces them to the level of criminals when they are really not engaged in wrongdoing. If freedom of speech is to remain the right of all this discriminatory and suppressive ban needs to be removed as it cuts at the core of creativity. The youths should not be made to pay in any way for societal problems such as that which caused the ban. Reference Find Law (n.d.). Vincenty v. Bloomberg. Stoke Moran Essay Example for Free

Stoke Moran Essay In this essay I am going to compare contrast two detective stories. A pre-twentieth century story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle called The Speckled Band a modern story by Colin Dexter called Neighbourhood Watch. I will describe the language, characters, social and historical context, Style, the plot, similarities and differences between the two. I will also state which I prefer why. The Speckled Band starts off with Miss Stoner going to Sherlock Holmess house and asking for his help. She tells him of her sisters death and of how her sister had heard a whistle at night for the past week or so. On the night of her death there was a loud scream of terror and just after a whistle Miss Stoner went to inspect quickly but as she neared her sisters room she stumbled out and said silently a speckled band. Miss Stoner was quite worried because her sister was soon to be married and now so is she. As soon as she left Dr Roylott came barging in wanting to know what Miss Stoner had come to see Holmes for. Holmes tried to put off answering Dr Roylott and answered with something about the weather. In disgust Dr Roylott picked up Holmess poker and bent it then he left. Once Dr Roylott left Holmes picked up his poker and bent it back as straight as possible in one go. Holmes and Watson soon left for Stoke Moran which is the home to DR Roylott and Miss Stoner who live with one servant. But they told the dog cart driver that took them there that they were archaeologists and were interested in the building itself. They got off the dog cart near the plantation that was on Dr Roylotts land. He let some gypsies live there and often used to go with them on voyages and trips. When Holmes started to look at the rooms he began in Miss Stoners room which was supposed to be having some repairs done to the wall because the builders punctured the wall while doing repairs in the other wing of the house. When Holmes looked at it there wasnt any repairs done to the wall and nothing wrong with it either. Holmes soon went on to the next room which was currently being used by Miss Stoner Holmes automatically noticed the ventilator and told Watson that he knew that it was somewhere near due to the fact that the dead sister could smell Dr Roylotts cigars and could hear things that Dr Roylott was doing and that meant there was some kind of connection between the rooms and a ventilator would be one of them. He also noticed that the bed was bolted to the floor which could not be moved, also there was a bell-pull which didnt ring a bell and Holmes noticed it was a dummy instantly. Holmes left that room and investigated Dr Roylotts room. He noticed only a few things but the things he noticed were a safe a saucer of milk and a lash curled up making a loop of whipcord. Holmes asked what was in the safe and Miss Stoner replied papers. She told him that she had seen inside and that was what was inside. Holmes wondered to himself in a thick cloud of smoke from his pipe. What was the milk for? Dr Roylott may have had it for his pet cheetah but a saucer wouldnt have been enough for a huge cat like that. Holmes and Watson arranged to come back after Dr Roylott had retired to his room for the night Miss Stoner would signal for them once Dr Roylott had gone to bed for the night. Holmes and Watson waited for the signal at a nearby Crown Inn. When the signal came they went up to Stoke Moran and Miss Stoner let them into her dead sisters room for the night. Holmes and Watson waited into the early hours of the morning waiting for something to happen. Soon enough Holmes got up and hit the bell-rope. Soon after there was a whistle and they soon found Dr Roylott dead and a poisonous snake in his room. In the story Neighbourhood Watch Morse begins in a pub called the Kings Arms taking his lunch hour while looking at a near 30 year old brunet when a Dr Ullman turns up and tells everybody about what had happened. He said that he had gone to the opera and when he had returned his car wasnt in the drive way. He was very worried and phoned the police although they werent much help. A few days had passed and his car had returned back in his drive with a note and an opera ticket worth i 40. Morse was quite surprised and Dr Ullman read the note. The note said Sorry for any inconvenience very sorry indeed. I just had to have a car and yours was there. Its had a shampoo and I filled the petrol tank unleaded, like it says in handbook. Your little car saved my bacon, thats the truth, and Im grateful. Please then do me the honour of accepting the enclosed ticket. I know you like the opera. I wasnt quite sure what performance to choose but Wagner is the king for me, and in my opinion Die Valkurie is the greatest thing he ever wrote. Enjoy your evening and thanks again. Morse found it quite strange for a car to be taken and not even a scratch on it in fact quite the opposite, it looked brand new. Morse soon left and set up a surveillance operation watching over Dr Ullmans house. When it was time to go round the opera Morse and Lewis were already there not very far into the surveillance operation a woman went in and posted something. Morse thought it was a free paper. Lewis soon wanted to go in but Morse told him to wait. Soon after that a man opened the gates and went and took something out of the letterbox it was a key then they noticed that it was Dr Ullman. Morse and Lewis were quite surprised to see Dr Ullman back in his home before the opera was finished. They both went home. Morse walked 300 yards home and Lewis took the van home. When Morse got home he noticed something on the table. A note. It read Sorry for the inconvenience very sorry indeed. It was the only thing worth pinching and Im hoping Ill get a good price for it. Morse leaped up the stairs to see if his tables were gone and they had. Morse phoned the police to tell them that he had been burgled the officer told Morse that it had already been reported by Dr Ullman. He said that he lived near by. Dr Ullman had got the number plate of the white self hire van. Morse went around to Dr Ullmans house and he explained all that had happened. The Language of the two stories is different in many ways. Nowadays we dont use dog carts and dont have bell-ropes in our houses like in the Speckled Band, also we dont write 70 word sentences like In glancing over my notes of Stoke Moran. We also dont call our bedroom a chamber anymore. We dont use phrases like would fain draw a little closer to the fire. Not many houses even have a proper fire in their homes nowadays anyway. The Morse story mainly contains modern language and some slang like genuine enough I reckon and so this chap this is completely differently from the 70 word sentences that are in the Speckled Band. Neighbourhood Watch contains many modern words like Tupperware, new alarm system, white self hire van or even NHS hearing aid. That makes it obvious that Neighbourhood Watch is not set in the same time period as The Speckled Band. The old words in The Speckled Band make it feel rather strange. Maybe its because I dont understand some of them but the new modern words that are in Neighbourhood Watch and everyday life dont add much of any thing to the story.

Demolition of steel manufacturing plant

Demolition of steel manufacturing plant Introduction This report is to outline the demolition of an existing steel manufacturing plant between Sheffield and Rotherham, all buildings on the brownfield site will be demolished. The client is a major internet mail order retailer who requires a handling and distribution warehouse on the site. The report will show potential hazards that may be found on the site and precautionary measures are needed. This will involve removing the existing buildings found on the site and that adequate provisions are made to assure the local authority that any potential hazardous are removed safely and correctly from the site. The report will also contain a specification of a suitable foundation answer for the new building, and a suitable frame solution. There will be a solution for the cladding system, a method of construction for the concrete floor slab for the new building. The building will have a gross area of 13,000m2 which will incorporate high bay racking which will be used for storage of the retail products. Within the design a 600m2 office accommodation is required on site for the staff to operate the facility. The new building will be a close as possible to the boundary to allow space for vehicular access to and from the site. Demolition Under section 80 of the 1980 Building Act anyone intending to carry out demolition is required to notify the council. This outline Method Statement and all detailed Method Statements produced will be in accordance with BS 6187. Site personnel Contracts manager Safety advisor Full Time Site Manager Demolition Site Supervisor Co-ordinator Demolition operatives Plant operators Working Hours The standard working hours for a construction company are 07.30 17.30 Monday Friday. Weekend working is only arranged as necessary and by agreement with both the client and Local Authority. It is understood that restrictions on site working hours are as detailed below, and therefore conclude that the standard hours of work fall within the prescribed timings; Weekdays 7.00 19.00 Saturdays 9.00 12.00 Sundays and Bank Holidays No Work Ground Site Survey Level and water depth were inspected in this survey, as this will cause difficulties in the design of the foundation and retaining structure if there is a water table. However, from the survey it can be assumed that ground water table is not present. A Type 3 Full Access Sampling Identification Survey (Demolition/Refurbishment Surveys), should be carried out to locate and describe, as far as it is practicable, all asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in the building and may involve some destructive inspection, to gain access to all areas in the building, some may be difficult to reach or are hidden from sight. A full sampling program is undertaken to identify possibly ACMs and estimates of the volume and surface area of ACMs. Services Services are known to exist in the bordering footpaths/roads and enter the site. All services to the buildings to be demolished are to be disconnected at or beyond the site boundary prior to works commencing. The local gas and electricity suppliers will be informed for the proposed working period with the client and all statutory undertakers are to ensure that all services are identified and isolated or their positions marked as required. It is recommended that a CAT scan should be carried out before commencing of the works to locate the possibility of rouge services within the site area. If there are any services within the site which are to remain live, they will need to be assessed and protected as necessary. Carefully controlled hand excavated trial pits will be carried out as necessary to prove and verify exact location and nature of recorded services. Soft Strip A soft internal strip of the building must firstly undertaken before the main demolition the buildings are removed. All areas will be inspected prior to the works commencing. Soft strip of all flammable materials will be undertaken. The soft strip will normally undertake with hand tools. During the soft strip all operatives will be advised to be vigilant for hazardous substances or materials. Any hazardous substances or materials found shall be brought to the attention of the site supervisor who will asses these and arrange for the appropriate action to be undertaken. All necessary PPE will be provided and worn during the soft strip. Access to the roof should be limited to lowest possible practical necessity. Mechanical and demolition will be carried out where it is safe to do, as it is always the preferred method. Soft strip material arising will be disposed of via suitable skips with record maintained regarding identification and disposal. Any materials that can be re-cycled or re-used will separate from the general waste. TheManual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) set no specific requirements such as weight limits (ref). Although it sets out no limit common sense should prevail that when lifting heavier items it should be done in teams. Movements on and off site are to be fully supervised by the ground operative at all times. Damping down measures in the form of a hand held water spray system may be adopted should the need arise. All runoff water from the suppression operations is to be channelled to the nearest low point of the building footprint. The basements are to act as soakaways for the runoff water. The constant monitoring of dust will be carried out and all necessary suppression will be implemented as determined by the site supervisor. All materials are to be removed to licensed disposal points via sheeted transport with full documentation being supplied upon completion of the works. Hard Demolition There are two main methods of demolition which are available for this type of demolition works to be carried out, they are piecemeal and deliberate explosive collapse. Piecemeal demolition involves the process of using cranes and other equipment to dismantle the building, it is a more controlled method of demolition which allows for any materials which can salvaged and re used within the project. However, it may take longer to complete the necessary works which could in turn delay the project. Demolition of buildings or structure by hand-held tools such as electric or pneumatic breakers, sometimes as a preliminary to using other methods, should be carried out, where practicable, in the reverse order to the original construction sequence. Lifting appliances may be necessary to hold larger structural members during cutting and for lowering severed structural members and other debris. Chutes may be used to discharge debris into a vehicle or hopper. Foundations would normally be grubbed up by excavation machines. When any part of a building is being demolished by a balling machine, pusher arm or similar equipment, only the machine operator and banksman should be allowed close to the working area. The cabs of all machines should be strong enough to protect the operator against the fall of debris. In particular, the windscreen and rooflight should be of shatterproof material and guarded by a grille of steel bars or a substantial mesh. The deliberate collapse of the whole or part of a building or structure requires particularly high standards of planning, supervisions and execution, and careful consideration of its effect on other parts of the structure or on adjacent buildings or structures. A surrounding clear area and exclusion zone are required to protect both personnel and property from the fall of the structure itself and debris which may be thrown up by the impact. The collapse is usually achieved either by removing key structural elements (e.g. with explosive charges) or by wire rope pulling at a high level to overturn the structure. The possible modes of failure must be studied to ensure that the method selected will produce the required pattern of collapse. If the operation is not successful, the remaining structure may be extremely dangerous for the completion of the demolition. It is therefore, recommended that the most appropriate way of dismantling the building will be through the piecemeal method of demolition. This will be the most cost effective way of dismantling the buildings. It also ensures that all of the materials that are removed can go through the re-use and re-cycle waste management system. Once the activities involved in the demolition take place, the tools and equipment required to carry out the work can be defined, these will include cranes of various types, transport equipment, bolting equipment, welding equipment including cables, guns and drying ovens, electric generators, hydraulic jacks, measuring equipment and miscellaneous equipments. The heaviest or highest element to be dismantled, or the part which requires the greatest lifting capacity (radius-weight) determines the minimum crane capacity to be used. The first stage of the hard demolition stage is to removal of the roof system. The roof system consists of steel corrugated sheeting and in order to remove the material scaffolding will need to be erected, any work carried out manually on the roof will have to have fall arrest systems in place. The next stage will be the removal of the existing cladding system on the walls of the building. This will again removed manually and may also involve the use crane machinery to safely remove the material away from the building. Subsequently the steel frame will be dismantled with the steel frame roof trusses needing to be removed first. This will involve the use carnage machinery which will be operated by a qualified Slinger with a valid CSCS card, at all times when the crane is being operated it must supervised by the site supervisor. After the trusses have been removed the steel stanchions can be removed, they must first be securely attached the crane and then the bolts can be removed manually from the foundations. All the steel removed will be salvaged and under the waste plan it will sold to a scrap yard. Lastly the concrete ground floor will be broken up and removed. The concrete will need to be grubbed first, this concrete will then be used as part of the base course for the new building foundations. This will be achieved by the use of a mobile crusher to convert the concrete into base course. This process will involve large amounts dust produced and a high degree of noise, this will be covered in section 2 of the report which will include all of the safety considerations and PPEs to be worn during the demolition stage. Hazardous materials Identification and removal of asbestos containing materials (ACMs) will be carried out prior to our commencement on site. However, given the age of the structures it is envisaged that some ACMs will remain undetected until the soft strip and main demolition works are progressed. Site Managers, Supervisors and Operatives will be briefed in this regard and a process is to be established between K D C, the client and his asbestos surveyor to minimise the potential hazard of any asbestos discovered during the works and also the potential delay to the contract. Other hazards have been identified in terms of lead paint, oil containing excessive levels of PCBs and also refrigerant from Air Conditioning systems. Samples of paint will be taken as required in order to assess any lead content if needed. In the event this registers positive, respirators with the appropriate filters will be issued. Oils will be sampled at the earliest opportunity and drained and disposed of through a licensed undertaker. Air conditioning units and associated pipe work will be de-gassed by a specialist contractor at the earliest opportunity. Arsenic is one of the likely contaminants which may be found from the ground site survey, if found in this instance then Approved Document Part C Section 2.3 of Building Regulations should be followed. Personal protective equipment All site personnel will be issued with standard personal protective equipment. Each operative will have general protection issued by the Site Supervisor dependent upon the work in hand. Safety wear will comprise of the following: Hard hats, ear and eye defenders, nasal protection against high volume of dust, dermal protection to exposed vulnerable areas and footwear against risk of penetration and impact, high visibility vests/jackets. Site perimeter Warning notices and restricted area notices will be positioned at vantage points. The permanent working area is to be protected and scaffold in accordance with the clients requirements prior to main demolition works commencing. Solid barriers will be in place to all site boundaries through the provision of either timber hoarding, solid heras type fencing or utilisation of existing boundary walls. The inner perimeter of the working area is to receive a further block and mesh hoarding as necessary to demark active demolition zones or protected services. Elevations which front public rights of way will have sentries in attendance when needed. During plant demolition the management of pedestrians and traffic will be implemented by the contractor jointly with the client/County Council/Local Highways Authority. Access and egress to the workface will be via designated routes. These will be agreed and implemented by our site supervisor. The existing road system is to be followed in accordance with the traffic management scheme to be adopted. All plant will be delivered to site by road going low loader, with no plant movements carried out on existing roadway to ensure that the road surface and also existing below ground sewers/drainage is not damaged through displacement. Workforce protection Areas of risk directly beneath the demolition area will be cordoned off and clearly segregated from third parties. Barriers are to be erected complete with warning signs. All temporary barriers and signs etc. will be constantly checked and maintained before and during each working day by the Site Supervisors. All areas of safety will be constantly evaluated with attention to detail being given the utmost concern at all times. Any secondary lighting required within the site will be the responsibility of, and provided by, the contractor in a safe and secure manner. The positioning of any lights will be in liaison with the client. The position of any lighting will be such that there is no risk imported to the adjacent operational properties. Dust noise reduction strategy Noise levels will be monitored during the course of the works. It is accepted that noise cannot be eliminated entirely, but reasonable steps will be taken to reduce any adverse effects of noise generated by the works. Previous works of this nature have been carried out and have had noise assessments produced. A table summary of these results is shown below for reference. The nature of the works and type of structures will allow controlled sectional removal of structural elements using remotely operated plant. The nature and capability of the plant proposed to be used is such that all operations will be carried out with the minimum of noise and emissions generated on the site. All of the contractors Plant and Machinery should have engines compliant with emission regulations EU Stage 3. In addition all exhaust gases are mixed with intake air to reduce particle matter and Nitrogen emissions. The location of all plant and machinery, specifically crushing plant, will be positioned as far as is reasonably practicable from sensitive receptors, specifically members of the public and adjacent residential properties. As a matter of course all plant and machinery will have the engines turned off when idling. A large span steel portal will be used for the design of the building with a cladding system attached to this frame. It can be determined from this that the best solution for the foundation would be a pad foundation. The columns of steel framework transfer their load to the foundation by means of the base plates. The foundation bolts constitutes the unifying element between foundation and framework. In cases where the columns transfer compressive stress only, the bolts are used to locate the column correctly. The office space provided will require separate foundations, this is since it will be a cavity wall construction. Therefore, a strip foundation solution is required to spread the load from the walls uniformly. The depth of the strip foundation should be at least 0.75m according NHBC 2008 Standards Section 4.4, with the foundation spread having to be at least the width of the wall, when building on rock at 2m depth. When carrying pit excavations for the foundations it is important to ensure there is an earth support barrier. This can achieved with the use steel interlocking sheeting around the pit. Suitable Frame Proposal The most appropriate solution for the frame proposal will be multi-span large frame steel portals, a large span portal frame can span from 15m to 60m. Spacing between the frames can from 6m to 12m with the roof pitch having a low pitch between 15Â ° to 18Â °. Within the design it should incorporate high bay racking. Therefore, it is advised the portal frame should include lattice members made for lateral support, which will be required particularly in the instance of longer span frames. Multi-span portal frames are suitable for wide buildings and are economical in material usage and labour contribution. An example of the multi-span steel portal frame has been provided.
